These city models can then be loaded directly into the SkylineGlobe TerraExplorer client application or streamed over a network using the SkylineGlobe TerraGate server, a high performance terrain steaming server.<br

We learned a great deal and have come back to Wellington inspired to raise the bar and produce ever better maps. Both events also provided welcome opportunities to catch up with our peers and colleagues from both the Americas and Europe.

Geocart 2012 doubled as the 2nd ICA Regional Symposium on Cartography for Australasia and Oceania. It was held at the University of Auckland campus and featured a good mix of New Zealand and overseas delegates. Geographx exhibited and additionally contributed 3 presentations, including a keynote address.

The Mountain Cartography workshop was held at the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre at Ketetahi on the edge of Tongariro National Park. This was the first time the biennial gathering of the ICA Mountain Cartography Commission had been held in New Zealand and there was added interest due to the recent Te Maari eruption event on Mt Tongariro, the site of which was clearly visible from the venue.

The theme this year was “Mapping Mountain Dynamics – from Glaciers to Volcanoes” and papers were presented on this and related topics from most of the 25 practicing and academic cartographers attending. Canada, USA, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Norway and New Zealand were all represented. The workshop traditionally features a recreational networking day and this year was no exception. Between us we managed ascents of all three mountains and a walk to the Tama Lakes.

The post <a
