Visit to the Norwegian Mapping Authority

partners-sk_clip_image002 On Monday 10th November I spent a productive morning at the Norwegian Mapping Authority HQ in H√łnefoss, about an hour north-west of Oslo.

Kartverket is the national provider and administrator of geodesy, geographical and cadastre information covering Norwegian land, coastal and territorial waters. Norway and New Zealand are similar in terms of physical size, topography and population and face similar mapping challenges. However it is fair to say the Norwegians are significantly better resourced.

A big thanks to Kristoffer Kristiansen and his team who proved to be extremely generous hosts. I was grateful for the opportunity to learn more about and better understand Kartverket’s topographic and web mapping activities. In return I gave a presentation on the Geographx experience of mapping New Zealand in a virtual 3D environment.
